About 250th Summer Exhibition

The Royal Academy’s annual Summer Exhibition celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2018. To mark this momentous occasion, the exhibition will be co-ordinated by Grayson Perry RA along with a Summer Exhibition Committee of Royal Academicians. The biggest, brightest, most joyful celebration of art made now, the two-month art extravaganza will be on display in the RA’s newly transformed and redeveloped campus.

The Summer Exhibition is the world’s largest open submission, contemporary art show which has taken place every year without interruption since 1769. With works on display from students and emerging artists to amateurs and well-known professionals – the Summer Exhibition provides a platform for artists to showcase painting and printmaking, photography, sculpture, architecture and film.

Around 1,200 works will be on display, the majority of which will be for sale, offering visitors an opportunity to purchase original work. The Summer Exhibition marks the start of the summer season in the London art world: think cocktails in the courtyard on a Friday night, celebrations across the RA campus and a special series of events bringing the galleries to life.
